The United Kingdom is a parliamentary monarchy with a government system based on the sovereignty of the Westminster Parliament. Its head of state is the monarch, currently Queen Elizabeth II, though her role is largely ceremonial. The government is led by the Prime Minister, who comes from the political party with a majority in the House of Commons. This Cabinet, composed of ministers appointed by the Prime Minister, is responsible for policy formulation and implementation. The Parliament of the United Kingdom, consisting of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, is the supreme legislative body.
