THE SUFFRAGIST MOVEMENT IN THE UNITED KINGDOM: A MILESTONE IN THE FIGHT FOR GENDER EQUALITY

THE SUFFRAGIST MOVEMENT IN THE UNITED KINGDOM: A MILESTONE IN THE FIGHT FOR GENDER EQUALITY

last update on: 05/27/2024

The course refers to a problem that is printed in the second wave of feminist movements: the fight for citizen equality: the right to vote. We will develop theoretical questions that frame the movement, the origins, the antecedents and its irruption in the British public space. The course will propose to ask questions about the struggles, the breadth of their program and their visibility in the graphic media and political discussions. The students will be able to recognise the strong biologist imprint of inequality and the empirical and theoretical potential of the concept of gender equality. At the end, the students will have a problematic vision of the suffrage movement and the importance of the recognition of political citizenship.
